I hope you find this new feature helpful and interesting as we do what we can to keep everyone informed of things at MOCGC.
We have a very strong field for Saturday's anniversary event and it is encouraging to see members from all sections represented. It promises to be a fun day and we hope as many as possible will attend the prize giving in the late afternoon.
The Club has now been open on a fulltime basis for over three months now and is proving to be a popular move. It is only proper the Clubhouse should be available for all our members whenever possible. We hope you continue to support this throughout the winter months as The Committee are eager to make the most of our superb building. Speaking of which I hope you have taken the time to inspect the renovation work to its exterior. I'm sure you will agree it is a huge improvement.
It was very disappointing to hear of the theft of three sets of junior clubs from the premises at the weekend. Despite capturing the culprits on CCTV we are still awaiting any results from the Police. It is perhaps timely to remind members they should take every possible precaution to protect their belongings and equipment from thieves. To put a brighter note on this episode, our visitors from St Andrews rallied round to assist in replacing the lost equipment and we of course will be passing this on to the parents of the unfortunate juniors. May I take this opportunity to thank the members from St Andrews for their generous and kind gift.
The Club have organised a visit to Muirfield next year on 11th June 2009 at 4.30pm. These have been popular in the past and we expect a good response again this year. To assist us could you please ensure your greenfee of £55 is paid before 1st November. The Club is increasing in size daily and new members are joining us. Many including, our new Overseas members have expressed an interest in playing but it is only fair and proper our full members be given first opportunity. So if you wish to play please put your name on the list on the noticeboard or click onto the Muirfield visit news item and register your name there. You can pay your fee at the same time with any major credit/debit card. After1st Novemeber all places will be allocated on first come, first served basis. It is important you pay for your place as soon as possible as no money will be accepted on the day. Last time I had the uncomfortable experience of having to carry £1,000 with me and would not wish to repeat it. Please note there will be no bar or catering facilities available but there will be access to the locker room. Afterwards we intend to meet back at our Clubhouse for prizegiving.
I have conducted several interviews with quite a few foreign journalists over the last few weeks and we are very hopeful of raising the awareness of golfers to Museelburgh and what a unique and special place it is. Articles are to be published in Holland, Belguim, Spain, Germany, Italy and the US in the next few months. There is no doubt the Club is building some momentum to drive it forward and we hope many more golfers will want to be associated with us at THE Club at the world's oldest golf course.
Christmas is coming soon and if you are struggling for a present for someone, why not buy them a membership at the world's oldest golf course? The beautiful presented Associate Membership package is a superb gift and is guarenteed to be appreciated. If you have someone in mind speak to me and I will tailor the package perfectly to the individuals requirements. We can even arrange to post it to anywhere in the world for you!
I am particuarly thrilled to learn about the Club's acceptance into the East Lothian Winter League this year. It is an ideal opportunity for our better players to prove themselves against the best in the County. It has taken a lot of effort to have our Club accepted into the league and we hope all those who are given the opportunity to represent the Club will do so with a sense of pride that they are representing a very special and unique Club.
Our Junior League Team deserve a special mention as they represented us very well in their league this year and finsihed in third place. Our adult members have much to live up to! Congratulations are due to each of our lads who were given the opportunity to represent us and we hope next year they will go one step further and clinch a top two place.
If you feel you have any stories to add which the members will enjoy please let me know and I'll do what I can to publish them.
