Connor T Lewis from Cedar Rapids and Clayton Copple from Des Moines, Iowa both played this weekend in the Iowa Hickory Classic. We believe these to be the first players from MOCGC to represent the Club in such a tournament on the other side of the pond. Congratulations to Connor who finished an excellent 4th overall. He tells me he could have won but for a poor start. I think we all know that feeling!
Clayton Copple is Chairman of the Hickory Golf Association in the US and he tells me both he and Connor are in action again at Lexington, Kentucky this weekend. It seems Kentucky will be hosting two very important events but the name of the other escapes me for the moment! I'm sure it will come to me ....
I would like to give a mention to the winner David Brown from Omaha. David Brown of course is a legendary name in Musselburgh and was a local man who won the Open Championship in 1886. His story was quite extraordinary and if you are not aware of it please read it in our Five Open Champions Section of this website.
I am also led to believe David Brown, the modern incarnation from Omaha, has agreed to join the Club as an Associate Member. I can hardly think of anyone more appropriate to join our ever swelling ranks. I am sure when he visits us he will receive a most hearty and warm welcome.
